Cooking is one life skill one ought to cultivate and grow. With most establishments limiting admittance, and traffic being highly restricted in specific places, one would be considered wise to start with spending more time in the kitchen.

Apart from the epicurean marvels like pastries, stews, and steaks, learning how to make and cook stalwarts like bread, soup, and chicken may well be worth your while and attention. The following are three of the best food recipes you should definitely try to master while stuck at home.

Learn below to cook the best food recipes!

Best food recipes – no knead to get sourdough!

First in my list with the best food recipes is sourdough. Sourdoughs are usually best grabbed from the farmer’s market or your local kid friendly restaurants around the corner. However, you can make also make one from scratch but it will usually require a lot of kneading and proofing. Hence, making the latter option a lot less desirable for most people.

Nevertheless, a recipe by Jim Lahey of Sullivan Street Bakery may make it easy to make it at home. No need to knead, you just need to let Time do its magic.

Sourdough (Best Food Recipes)

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cup of lukewarm water
  • 1/4 tsp of active dry yeast
  • 3 cup of bread flour, divided, plus more for work surface
  • 1 1/2 tsp of kosher salt
  • 3 tbsp of cornmeal
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • flaky sea salt (such as Maldon), for sprinkling

To make the sourdough bread, you will need two days and a good hour and a half to complete the process.

On Day One, you can start with making the dough by mixing water and the yeast along with two cups of flour in a large bowl. Mix them well with a spoon until fully combined. After checking there are no dry spots, you may continue to add the remaining flour to the dough. Feel free to add water if you find the dough too dry or flour if you find it too wet. The dough should be moist and supple enough that it doesn’t run and is able to hold shape for a good while. Once you deem the dough good enough, cover the bowl with plastic, and set it aside at room temperature for 18-24 hours.

On Day Two, prepare a dutch oven or an oven-safe pot by sprinkling some cornmeal on the bottom. Then, dust your work surface with a little flour and scrape dough onto it. Pull dough edges then fold them into the center as if forming a dumpling. The dough should look like a ball with a little seam on top.

Once ready, set the dough into the prepared pot with its seam side down. Cover the pot and allow the oven to preheat to 450 F. This will also allow the dough to proof. Once the oven is hot, brush the top of the dough with olive oil and then score the top a few times with a sharp knife. Cover it again and allow to bake for 35 minutes. After, remove the cover and allow to bake for 25 minutes more.

Your sourdough bread is now done! However, allow it to cool for 30 minutes to an hour. After which, you may then slice it up and enjoy! You can munch on one – best buttered and toasted – with coffee in the morning, you can also dip one in a creamy soup on a rainy day, or you can pair it with decadent lasagna for supper. The sourdough bread is arguably the most versatile and significant food there is. For sure, it’s included in my best food recipes!

Best food recipes – comfy and creamy tomato soup

Second in my list with the best food recipes is tomato soup. A good tomato soup is like a warm hug on a rainy day. If you want to make someone feel better when they’re out and sick, a creamy tomato soup is the easiest way you can get their tummies warm, fuzzy, and full. So, you should include it among the best food recipes to try during quarantine!

Tomato Soup (Best Food Recipes)

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup (½ stick) of unsalted butter
  • 10 sprigs of thyme, tied together
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup of tomato paste
  • 2 28-oz cans of whole tomatoes
  • 1–2 teaspoons of sugar, divided
  • ¼ cup (or more) of heavy cream
  • kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Start with melting butter in a large heavy pot over medium heat. Put in your aromatics (thyme, onion, and garlic) and cook until the onion is soft and translucent for 10-12 minutes. After, raise heat to medium-high then add tomato paste. For 5-6 minutes, stir the paste until it has started caramelizing in spots.

Then, add a teaspoon of sugar, 8 cups of water, and tomato with juices to the mixture. Raise heat again to high and bring the mixture to a simmer. After, bring the heat down to medium. For the next 45-55 minutes, allow the mixture to simmer and slowly reduce to about 8 cups. Remove the soup from heat and allow it to cool slightly. Once cool enough, puree the soup in a blender until smooth. Return to pot.

Finally, stir cream into the mixture. Allow soup to simmer for 10-15 minutes. Continue to season with salt, pepper, and sugar to taste.

Best food recipes – buttermilk fried chicken

Third in my list of the best food recipes is fried chicken. A good fried chicken will always be hard to say “No” to. It doesn’t help that it is actually quite easy to make, and lends itself to good experimentation. Plus, think that many people include fried chicken among the best food recipes.

The best thing with buttermilk chicken is the insurance you get from the buttermilk. It adds the necessary punch of acidity to the meat that can easily come out bland, and produce the best of flavors.

Fried Chicken (Best Food Recipes)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of buttermilk
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp of baking powder
  • 1 tbsp of salt
  • 2 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1 tsp of black pepper
  • some vegetable oil for frying

First, marinate the chicken in a resealable plastic bag along with the buttermilk. Place the bag in the fridge for an hour or let it stay there overnight.

Now that you’re ready to cook the chicken, start with mixing the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt in another resealable bag. Move one piece of marinated chicken at a time to the flour mixture. Shake well to coat the chicken fully. Take the chicken part out of the bag and place it on the rack. Continue with the remaining chicken parts.

Finally, heat an inch-deep of vegetable oil in a deep pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Make sure temperature registers between 350F and 375F. Once the oil is hot enough, fry the chicken a few pieces at a time so the oil does not cool down. Turn pieces to ensure it is golden brown on all sides and cooked through. Drain on a wire rack to maintain crispness.

Above are 3 of the best food recipes to try during quarantine. Of course, you could have another list with the best food recipes that you cook frequently. Even so, I recommend you to try my best food recipes, I’m pretty sure that you’ll like them!
