Liutenitsa is a traditional Bulgarian spread made from roasted peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes, combined with herbs and spices. It adds a depth of flavor to the chicken breasts that is hard to resist.
This dish is perfect for a weeknight dinner, but also impressive enough for a special occasion. The chicken breasts are seasoned and then pan-fried until golden brown. They are then simmered in a rich tomato sauce with liutenitsa, onions, and bell peppers until tender and juicy.

Notes

Cooking Tips:
  1. Make sure to season the chicken breasts generously before pan-frying. This will help to infuse the chicken with flavor and give it a nice golden crust.
  2. To ensure that the chicken breasts cook evenly, make sure they are of similar size and thickness. You can also use a meat mallet to pound them to an even thickness, which will help them cook more quickly.
  3. When making the liutenitsa, make sure to cook it on low heat and stir it frequently. This will help to prevent the sauce from burning and sticking to the pan.
  4. If you are using store-bought liutenitsa, make sure to taste it first and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Some brands may have more salt or sugar than others, so it’s always a good idea to taste and adjust accordingly.
  5. Before serving, let the chicken breasts rest for a few minutes. This will allow the juices to redistribute, making the meat more tender and juicy. It will also help the chicken to absorb more of the tomato sauce and liutenitsa flavor.

Final Notes for the Bulgarian Chicken Breast Recipe with Lyutenitza

  • I recommend using larger chicken breast pieces of about 250-300 g/9-10 oz each
  • notch the chicken breast to half the thickness of the fillet so that the heat enters more easily into the thicker part of the meat
  • in addition to baking, eggplants, and peppers can be roasted on the grill or stovetop
  • don’t fry the chicken breast until the baked vegetables aren’t ready because it hardens by cooling
  • traditionally, this food is spicy due to the hot chili peppers, if you don’t like it so, simply remove them from the ingredients
  • don’t take out the vegetables from the oven until they aren’t very soft and the water has dropped almost completely
  • use a quantity of chopped parsley that suits your taste, it has a decorative role but also a flavoring one
  • serve the Bulgarian chicken breast LYUTENITSA as soon as you finish cooking because the fried chicken breast and melted butter harden quite quickly

How do I make fried chicken breast?

To make fried chicken breast, start by seasoning the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and any other desired spices. Dip the seasoned chicken breasts into beaten eggs or buttermilk, and then coat them in a mixture of flour or breadcrumbs and seasonings. Heat oil in a pan or deep fryer and fry the chicken breasts until they are golden brown and cooked through. Drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil before serving.

What type of oil is best for frying chicken breast?

The best oil for frying chicken breast is one with a high smoke point and a neutral flavor, such as vegetable oil, canola oil, or peanut oil. These oils can withstand the high temperatures required for frying without imparting an overpowering taste to the chicken.

How long should I fry chicken breast?

The cooking time for fried chicken breasts can vary depending on the thickness of the chicken breasts and the cooking temperature. Generally, it takes about 6 to 8 minutes per side to cook chicken breasts that are about ½ inch thick. How can I keep the fried chicken breast crispy?

To keep fried chicken breast crispy, it’s essential to drain it on a paper towel after frying to remove excess oil. Additionally, placing the cooked chicken on a wire rack can help to prevent it from becoming soggy as it cools. Can I use boneless, skinless chicken breast for fried chicken?

Yes, boneless, skinless chicken breast is commonly used for fried chicken. The absence of bones and skin allows the breading to adhere well to the meat. The chicken breast remains tender and juicy when cooked properly.
