- add 1 tsp of sugar to each dough piece

- brush turnovers with beaten egg
- make 2 notches in each turnover with a sharp knife
- sprinkle a pinch of brown sugar over each cake piece
- place the tray in the preheated oven at 200C/390F until golden (about 10-15 min)
Notes
- Use Quality Puff Pastry: Choose a high-quality store-bought puff pastry or, if you prefer, make your own from scratch. Quality puff pastry will ensure that your turnovers have a light and flaky texture.
- Thoroughly Drain the Cherry Filling: If using canned or jarred cherries, be sure to drain them well to remove excess liquid. This prevents the filling from becoming too watery and compromises the texture of the turnovers.
- Seal the Edges Properly: To prevent the cherry filling from leaking out during baking, ensure that you seal the edges of the turnovers securely. You can use a fork to crimp the edges or fold and pinch them together to create a tight seal.
- Chill the Turnovers Before Baking: Place the assembled turnovers in the refrigerator for about 15-30 minutes before baking. Chilling helps the puff pastry retain its shape and prevents excessive spreading during baking.
- Monitor the Baking Time: Keep a close eye on the turnovers as they bake to ensure they don’t become overly browned or burnt. Follow the recommended baking time and adjust if needed based on your oven’s behavior.
