➡️ Cooking tips for the chicken and green bean casserole recipe 🔎

Green beans are one of my favorite vegetables. As a result, I often cook it, both when I have at disposal fresh green beans during summer and frozen green beans in wintertime. In addition, I use green beans and yellow wax beans because both are great to taste!

The dishes I cook with green or yellow beans, as the case may be, include stew, casserole, soup but also appetizer salads with or without mayonnaise.

Chicken breast is another highly prized ingredient in my family. My daughter especially loves it, and so I came up with the idea of cooking a dish that includes both green beans and boneless chicken breast.

For this recipe I recommend French green beans, called also string beans, because the yellow one (wax bean) fits better with the pork in my opinion. However, you can also use this one if you like it more or you have it at your disposal exclusively.

The recipe itself is very easy to cook as it is a British casserole or American stew. The preparation time of the ingredients is short, as is the cooking because both the green beans and the chicken breast are tender quickly.

Even if sour cream is not mandatory, as is parsley, I recommend using both because they add extra flavor and make the food much more appetizing. In addition, parsley is a natural “medicine” that strengthens your body!

Enjoy cooking green bean casserole with chicken breast!

➡️ What is a casserole? 🔎

The term casserole may be unfamiliar to some who want to cook this recipe. I understand those who are a little confused given that the term has a different meaning for Americans and British. So, I invite them to read more detailed information about what the casserole means.

Did You Know? Health Benefits

A casserole (French: diminutive of casse, from Provençal cassapan[1]) is a variety of a large, deep pan or bowl used for cooking a variety of dishes in the oven; it is also a category of foods cooked in such a utensil. To distinguish the two uses, the pan can be called a “casserole dish” or “casserole pan”, whereas the food is simply “a casserole”. The same pan is often used both for cooking and serving.

American-style casserole

In the United States, a casserole is typically a baked food with three main components: pieces of meat (such as chicken or ground meat) or fish (such as tuna) or other protein (such as beans or tofu), various chopped vegetables, and a starchy binder (such as flour, potato or pasta); sometimes, there is also a crunchy or cheesy topping.[4][5]

Liquids are released from the meat and vegetables during cooking, and further liquid in the form of stock, wine, beer, gin, cider, vegetable juice, or even water may be added when the dish is assembled. Casseroles are usually cooked slowly in the oven, often uncovered. They may be served as a main course or side dish, and, conveniently, may be served in the vessel in which they were cooked.

Other cuisines

Many baked dishes served in the baking dish can be classed as casseroles. Examples include Lancashire hotpot (English), cassoulet (French), moussaka (Greek), shepherd’s pie (UK), timballo (Italian).

In English-speaking Commonwealth countries like the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, the term casserole is most commonly used to refer to a dish of meat or chicken with vegetables and a gravy-style sauce; dishes containing a large proportion of starchy ingredients, e.g. pasta or potatoes, or those cooked in creamy sauces are not generally referred to as casseroles and might be called ‘bakes’ or ‘gratins’. In the UK, the terms casserole and stew tend to be used interchangeably, although technically stews are cooked on a stovetop while casseroles are cooked in an oven.[6]

➡️ Health benefits of green beans ⚕️

Green beans are particularly tasty and nutritious and, as such, are used to prepare very tasty dishes with or without meat. In addition, eating green beans has many benefits for the human body. Below are some of them.

Did You Know? Health Benefits

Green beans are a common staple in households across the country. They go by several names, some of the most popular ones being snap beans and string beans. Despite their name, however, they’re not always green. The green bean is a type of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), and it can be yellow or purple, too.

Health Benefits

While they may be low in calories, green beans contain many important nutrients that provide several health benefits. The legumes are full of antioxidants, including vitamin C, flavonols, quercetin, and kaemferol. These antioxidants fight free radicals in the body, which helps to reduce cell damage and may help to lower your risk of certain health conditions.

Improve Heart Health

Green beans are full of fiber, which is an important nutrient for many reasons. Soluble fiber, in particular, may help to improve the health of your heart by lowering your LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) levels.

Protect Gut Health

The fiber in green beans helps to keep your digestive system healthy and running smoothly. If you have a digestive disorder like irritable bowel syndrome, however, certain types of fiber can do more harm than good, leaving you with gas, bloating, and intestinal discomfort.

Those with irritable bowel syndrome (and other intestinal issues) often do better by avoiding high FODMAP foods. FODMAPs are carbohydrates that may not be digested or absorbed well. Green beans are a low FODMAP food, which can help to improve symptoms of digestive disorders.

Aid in a Healthy Pregnancy

A single cup of green beans has approximately one-third of your daily recommended intake of folate, a B vitamin that’s necessary for the growth and development of unborn babies. The vitamin helps to reduce the risk of certain birth defects. Women who are pregnant need to take in more folate than those who aren’t. Where most adults need 400mcg daily, women who are pregnant need 600mcg, and those who are nursing need 500mcg.
