For the Patties:

  • Ground beef: 1 pound (450 grams), preferably 80% lean
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon (5 grams)
  • Black pepper: 1/2 teaspoon (2 grams)
  • Garlic powder: 1/2 teaspoon (2 grams)
  • Onion powder: 1/2 teaspoon (2 grams)
  • Worcestershire sauce: 1 tablespoon (15 ml)

For the Assembly:

  • Cheese slices: 4 (cheddar, American, or your favorite)
  • Burger buns: 4
  • Butter: 2 tablespoons (30 grams), softened
  • Lettuce leaves: 4
  • Tomato: 1 large, sliced
  • Red onion: 1 small, thinly sliced
  • Pickles: 8 slices
  • Ketchup: To taste
  • Mustard: To taste
  • Mayonnaise: To taste

ℹ️ Instructions:

  1. Mix the ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  2. Form the patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty about 3/4-inch (2 cm) thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.
  3. Preheat the grill or skillet: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, or heat a large skillet over medium-high heat on the stovetop.
  4. Cook the patties: Place the patties on the grill or in the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover the grill or skillet to melt the cheese.
  5. Toast the buns: While the patties are cooking, spread the softened butter on the cut sides of the burger buns. Place the buns, cut side down, on the grill or in a separate skillet and toast until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.
  6. Assemble the burgers: Spread mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard on the bottom halves of the toasted buns. Place a lettuce leaf on each, followed by a cheese-topped patty. Top the patty with a slice of tomato, a few slices of red onion, and pickles.
  7. Complete the burger: Cover with the top halves of the buns. Press down gently to secure all the ingredients.
  8. Serve immediately: Serve your classic cheeseburgers immediately with your favorite sides, such as fries, coleslaw, or a simple green salad.
