Many of us don’t think about cooking morel mushrooms simply because they are a variety of wild mushrooms that you will not find everywhere. However, I recommend that you try to find some because they are very tasty and well worth the effort to cook!

Morels, as they are usually called, are very difficult to cultivate, so they are a pretty expensive mushroom variety. As a result, you may try to go to the forest to pick them yourself, but I don’t recommend this unless you are accompanied by someone who knows them well so as not to pick poisonous mushrooms in their place!

Even if they are hard to find or expensive to buy, you should still try cooking morel mushrooms since they are delicious, easy to prepare, and packed with minerals that could improve your overall health.

Be aware that there are about 80 species of Morchella (morel mushrooms), so please take my advice seriously and don’t try to pick them yourself if you don’t know exactly what they look like! When it comes to cooking morel mushrooms, things are much simpler. They are cooked like most mushrooms, that is, in the form of stew or grilled, to name just the most common methods of cooking mushrooms.

I especially like to cook and eat mushrooms, so I often have them on my menu. Of course, morel mushrooms are a rare occurrence and that is why I value them, even more, when I have the opportunity to buy them in the markets where farmers come to sell them. In regard to my preferred recipe for cooking morel mushrooms, this is sautéing in the pan with butter – you haven’t eaten anything tastier than this!

There are several types of morels in Missouri and some are poisonous. Consult an expert and/or check multiple field guides before cooking. Morels should not be eaten raw; cook them thoroughly first.
