Cooking Trout On The Grill

➡️ Even if you are not passionate about fishing but like fish, cooking trout recipes on the grill should be a priority for you this summer. Why? Simply because the trout is both delicious and healthy, in addition, it is a great change from the usual burgers and steaks that you usually prepare.


➡️ If you are unfamiliar with this species of fish, I recommend you read about it below. And if you think you are not a fisherman and therefore cannot cook trout, I tell you that you will find trout in many stores and fish farms, even at reasonable prices. As such, you have no excuse to avoid cooking trout recipes on the grill or in any other way.


➡️ I like to cook grilled trout in the simplest way. I use the whole trout, as big as possible, which I season with salt and grease with a little olive oil mixed with crushed garlic, then I put it on the burning coals and leave it for 2-3 minutes on each side. That’s all! You can serve delicious food!

Cooking Trout Recipes Is A Breeze!

➡️ I firmly believe that fresh trout is some of the best meat in the world. I haven’t eaten a meal that can compare to the fresh fish, roasted over a fire in the backcountry and cooked and eaten mere minutes after it was caught. This is the ideal situation, in which you catch fresh trout from the cold stream that is just coming down from the distant mountains.


➡️ As I wrote above, I am not a fisherman but I’m still a big fan of cooking trout recipes. Most of the time I buy it from the store (ready cleaned!) and I’ll throw it on the grill as soon as a sunny day catches my eye. Sometimes, when I go on trips to the mountains, I find a trout farm where I buy fresh fish that I put in a stick and fry it quickly over a campfire. What a treat!


➡️ Where you get your trout is less important than how you cook it. Just like with steak or prime rib, preparing trout is an art. It takes just as much time, effort, and skill to make a delicious trout dinner. I’ve spent years perfecting this system for cooking trout recipes, and it always works. I may not be the best at a lot of things, but I can proudly say that I know how to cook a fresh trout!

If I write about cooking fish, I almost always get a comment about how smelly it is. If I suggest moving the cooking outside to the grill, I hear from folks with sad tales of losing fillets to the white-hot coals or winding up with overcooked, dried-out food.

The beauty of this technique for cooking whole fish is its simplicity. The head-on, tail-on, cleaned fish are rubbed with a bit of olive oil, lightly seasoned with salt and pepper, and stuffed with sprigs of fresh herbs. Then they are wrapped in strips of thin, center-cut (this is important, so more on this later) bacon, placed on a grill over indirect heat (see notes below for more details), covered, and grilled until the bacon crisps, about 15 to 20 minutes.
