1) 450 g/16 oz of green peas, fresh or frozen
2) some salt and ground white pepper
3) 1/2 tsp of garlic powder or 1-2 grated garlic cloves
4) 1 tbsp of sunflower oil
5) 75 g/2.5 oz of butter
6) 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour
7) 400 ml/13.5 fl oz of cow milk
8) 100 g/3.5 oz of sour cream (12% fat)
9) some fresh parsley leaves

Easy Pea Recipe | Cooking Green Peas in Sour Cream Sauce

Step 1: place peas in a crock with water, then add salt, garlic, and oil
Step 2: boil peas 20 min or until soft, then remove water
Step 3: do place butter in a saucepan and wait to melt
Step 4: add flour and stir continuously 60 sec
Step 5: add gradually HOT milk while stirring energetically
Step 6: add some salt and white pepper to taste
Step 7: do add sour cream and mix ingredients well
Step 8: do add boiled peas to the saucepan
Step 9: do add chopped parsley and combine ingredients

➡️ Cooking tips for the creamed peas recipe with sour cream 🔎

Green peas belong to my favorite veggies. Therefore, I use them to cook various food recipes including soup, stew, and so on.

One of the recipes that I highly value is the one presented on this webpage. It’s quite simple, but despite this fact, is very tasty and versatile. Most often I use it as a side dish along with fried meat such as schnitzel, roast, or grill. Plus, it’s simply heavenly served next to barbecue grilled chicken!

This recipe is of French inspiration. The peas are simmered first to become tender (read below more about simmering). Then, I prepare a classic Bechamel sauce with milk and sour cream in which I add the softened peas. Finally, I add a generous amount of chopped fresh parsley for more vitamins and flavor!

The flavoring of the pea recipe is quite basic but it’s simply delicious! The sour cream matches very well the green peas’ taste and the combination is simply perfect next to any roasted, grilled, or fried meat!

Besides simplicity, the recipe is worth learning because it enables you to cook quickly a tasty side dish in a short time. You can use both fresh green peas (after you have unsheathed them) and frozen peas, which I do mostly because I rarely have fresh peas at my disposal and the frozen version saves more time. Whatever, fresh peas are wonderfully sweet and full of freshness, so use them if you can grow them or buy them from farmers…

A thing that is very important when cooking this creamed peas recipe is to use hot milk when you prepare the sour cream sauce. If the milk is cold, it will form lumps that you will not be able to eliminate from the food! So, heat the milk up until it gets hot just before you start making the Bechamel sauce.

Another secret I reveal to you is that you can use other aromatic herbs instead of parsley. The best ones are dill, coriander, mint, and basil.
