  • 7/200 (oz/g) apples
  • 4 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2/50 (oz/g) walnut core, coarsely crushed (you can skip this ingredient if you don't like walnuts)
  • 2 tbsp semolina
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 14/400 (oz/g) puff pastry dough (1 layer)
  • 1 egg
  • some powdered sugar for garnish (optional)


  • peel the apples.
  • chop or grate the apples coarsely into a bowl.
  • add sugar and crushed walnut core over the apples.
  • add semolina and vanilla essence, then mix the ingredients thoroughly.
  • spread the puff pastry dough on the floured table, then cut it into 4 equal pieces.
  • place about a quarter of the apple mixture in the middle of each dough piece into a strip.
  • turn the longer edge of each pastry piece over the filling, then press the edges with a fork to merge them.
  • break the egg, beat it up with a fork, then brush the apple turnovers on top and sides.
  • make 3 cuts on each apple strudel to allow steam to get out during baking.
  • put the pieces on a baking paper-lined tray.
  • place the tray in the preheated oven at 200 C/390 F and bake the until golden (about 20-25 minutes.)
  • remove the tray from the oven and wait to cool the cake to room temperature.
  • sprinkle some powdered sugar over before serving (optional.)
