How to Make Jam Buns from Scratch

What ingredients do you need for the homemade jam buns?

Apricot Jam Marmalade

1) 450 ml/15 fl oz of cow milk, lukewarm
2) 1 tbsp + 100 g/3.5 oz of granulated sugar
3) 15 g/0.5 oz of dried yeast
4) 1 tbsp + 750 g/26.5 oz of cake flour + some more for the workboard
5) 3 egg yolks + 1 whole egg
6) 1 tsp of vanilla essence
7) a pinch of salt
8) 5 tbsp of sunflower oil
9) 100 g/3.5 oz of butter at room temperature
10) 250 g/9 oz of apricot jam marmalade
11) some powdered sugar for garnishing (optional)

How to make leavened dough with butter?

Step 1: warm the milk up slightly, then add 1 tbsp of sugar, yeast, and 1 tbsp of flour and mix ingredients well
Step 2: cover the milk bowl and wait 15 min to activate the yeast
Step 3: do add over egg yolks 100 g/3.5 oz of granulated sugar and mix them
Step 4: do add vanilla essence and mix
Step 5: add a pinch of salt over the flour, then mix the ingredients
Step 6: pour the egg yolks over the flour
Step 7: pour oil and the yeast milk into the flour bowl
Step 8: do add half of the butter and knead the ingredients well
Step 9: do add the rest of the butter and combine the ingredients until you get a smooth dough
Step 10: cover the bowl with foil, place it into a warm place (25-30C/77-86F) and wait to leaven the dough for about 45 min

How to make homemade jam buns from scratch?

Homemade Jam Buns

Step 1: do remove the foil and place the dough on a floured surface
Step 2: sprinkle over the dough some flour
Step 3: spread the dough into a thin sheet
Step 4: cut large dough squares (16 pieces)
Step 5: place 1 tbsp of jam over each dough piece
Step 6: merge the opposite dough corners, then turn the jam cake over
Step 7: place the cakes on a baking paper-lined tray with a bit placed between them
Step 8: cover the tray and wait to leaven the dough for 15 min
Step 9: brush the homemade cake with a beaten egg
Step 10: do bake the cake in the preheated oven at 200C/390F for 30 min or until golden
Step 11: do remove the cake from the oven and wait to cool
Step 12: do sprinkle some powdered sugar on top
