ℹ️ Ingredients:

  • Mayonnaise: 1 cup (240 ml)
  • Pickles: 3 small pickles (or gherkins), finely chopped
  • Capers: 1 tablespoon, drained and finely chopped
  • Shallots: 1 small shallot, finely chopped (about 2 tablespoons)
  • Fresh parsley or dill: 2 tablespoons, finely chopped
  • Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon
  • Dijon mustard: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt: ½ teaspoon
  • Black pepper: ¼ teaspoon

ℹ️ Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Begin by finely chopping the pickles, capers, shallots, and parsley or dill. This ensures a consistent texture and even distribution of flavors throughout the sauce.
  2. Combine the Base Ingredients: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the mayonnaise. This will be the base of your tartar sauce, providing the creamy texture and rich flavor.
  3. Add the Flavorings: Incorporate the finely chopped pickles, capers, shallots, and parsley or dill into the mayonnaise. Mix well to combine.
  4. Enhance with Lemon and Mustard: Add the lemon juice and Dijon mustard to the mixture. These ingredients add a bright acidity and a subtle, sharp undertone that balances the creaminess of the mayonnaise.
  5. Season to Taste: Finally, season the sauce with salt and black pepper. Stir well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  6. Chill and Serve: For best results, refrigerate the tartar sauce for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together, creating a more cohesive and delicious condiment

ℹ️ Serving Suggestions:

Tartar sauce is traditionally served with fried or grilled fish, chicken, or pork, but it also pairs excellently with other seafood dishes such as shrimp, crab cakes, and fish sticks. Additionally, it can be used as a dipping sauce for vegetables or as a spread on sandwiches and burgers for an extra tangy twist.

ℹ️ Storage:

Store the tartar sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep well for up to one week, making it a convenient option for meal prep and quick, flavorful additions to your meals.
