What is goulash?

➡️ Goulash (gulyás) is a stew type originating from Hungary. Traditionally was a thick soup made with beef, but nowadays it turned more into a stew and is a well-known and popular dish all over the world. Goulash is a hearty stew that is full of flavor and is a great way to cook beef and especially the cheap cuts of meat that you find in the butchery. Today, goulash is cooked also with pork and even lamb. However, any typical Hungarian goulash features a thick onion-based gravy with paprika. Traditionally, Hungarian goulash is served plain or with small flour dumplings (nokedli).

What is pork stew?

➡️ Pork stew is a hearty dish made of chunks of meat and a variety of vegetables, such as onions, carrots, potatoes, and celery, often simmered in a sauce until the meat is tender. The sauce can be thick or thin, depending on the preference of the cook. Most pork stew recipes start out the same way. The meat is browned in a bit of oil or fat and then some flavors are added to the pot. Pork stew is a more popular dish in the colder months because it is very filling and requires a longer cooking time, which is unpleasant when it is hot outside.

PRO Tips for The Hungarian Pork Goulash Recipe

➡️ The authentic Hungarian pork goulash recipe is very easy to make, does not require many ingredients, and is very tasty, just like any other Hungarian goulash.

➡️ Goulash is probably the most popular dish in Hungary. People in this country eat goulash almost every day, no matter what type of meat is cooked! As a result, it is not surprising that the Hungarian goulash recipe is very popular not only in this Eastern European country but also all over the world and especially in the places where a large Hungarian community lives.

➡️ Hungarian beef goulash is more popular than the pork version. However, the latter is gaining a lot of popularity today because it is ready faster and the pork is cheaper than the beef.

➡️ In order to cook a Hungarian pork goulash recipe correctly, it is very important to add the right amount of water! This is where most people fail to cook this pork shoulder recipe properly! The secret is to NOT add excess water, as the onion sauce will be fluid and will not taste good!

➡️ Another important thing when cooking the Hungarian pork goulash recipe is to prepare the dish at a low temperature in the final part to allow the meat to soften well and the sauce to gradually lower.

➡️ Hungarian goulash, both beef, and pork are traditionally served with flour dumplings. However, there are many people who prefer boiled potatoes, boiled rice, or even boiled pasta with the pork goulash recipe because all these variations are very tasty due to the flavored onion gravy and juicy meat.

➡️ As already mentioned, the use of fresh greens is not mandatory. However, I recommend using fresh dill or fresh parsley leaves because their taste matches the flavors of goulash very well. In addition to more freshness, dill and parsley bring more vitamins to this main course with meat, so use any of them to enjoy a healthier meal! If you don’t like dill and parsley, you can use coriander leaves. This plant is also very popular in Hungary.

➡️ Along with the Hungarian pork goulash recipe, it is recommended to serve some pickles, pickled peppers, or even lettuce salad or other fresh vegetable salad.

Drinking Wine at Home

Drinking wine at home!

What goes better with a delicious meal than quality wine? Nothing, both from my point of view and from the ancient Greeks, who said about wine that it’s the nectar of the gods! Can we contradict them?
