Leftover Roast Pork and Broccoli Stir-Fry

Leftover Roast Pork and Broccoli Stir-Fry

If you're like me, you hate wasting food, especially when it's something as delightful as roast pork. This Leftover Roast Pork and Broccoli Stir-Fry recipe in the Chinese style is a testament to the idea that leftovers can be just as exciting as the original meal. With minimal prep and cooking time, you'll have a mouthwatering dinner on the table in no time.
The key to this dish is the flavorful stir-fry sauce, which combines the umami richness of soy sauce with the sweetness of honey and the nuttiness of sesame oil. It's a symphony of tastes that elevates the dish to a whole new level.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups leftover roast pork, thinly sliced
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
  • ½ tsp Chinese five-spice powder (for a unique twist)
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • ¼ cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the minced garlic and ginger and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the leftover roast pork slices and Chinese five-spice powder, stirring constantly until the pork is heated through and starts to brown slightly, approximately 3-4 minutes.
  • Toss in the broccoli florets and continue to stir-fry for another 3-4 minutes until they turn bright green and become slightly tender.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, and chicken or vegetable broth.
  • Pour the sauce over the pork and broccoli in the skillet and stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the ingredients.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

Cooking Tips for the Best Results:

  1. Thin Slices: Slice the leftover roast pork thinly; this allows it to absorb the flavors of the stir-fry sauce more effectively.
  2. Don’t Overcook the Broccoli: Keep an eye on the broccoli to ensure it remains crisp-tender and doesn’t become mushy.
  3. Adjust Spice Level: If you like it spicier, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the sauce mixture.
  4. Variation: Customize this recipe by adding other vegetables like bell peppers or snow peas for extra color and crunch.
  5. Serve with Rice: This stir-fry is fantastic on its own, but serving it over steamed jasmine rice or noodles takes it to another level.
