Final Notes for the Fresh Apple Cake Recipe with Poppy Seeds
➡️ Apple cake is beloved by many people, so there is not surprising that a lot of fruit cake recipes feature apples among the ingredients. There are different types of cakes with apples, of which the best known in western countries are apple strudel and apple pie.
➡️ Central and Eastern Europe have a long and rich tradition of baking apple cakes. Of these, Austria in particular has an exceptional tradition of making apple cakes. I’m sure many of you know what a strudel is and you’ve probably tasted your delicious apple strudel.
➡️ For those who don’t know, the apple strudel contains an apple filling wrapped in an unleavened dough. Similar to this world-famous cake, I share on this page a rolled apple cake recipe which, unlike strudel, has a leavened dough and contains, in addition, poppy seeds that enhance the taste of the apple and give a special note to the cake.
➡️ As far as I know, there are similar recipes in Austria and Germany, but my rolled cake recipe is inspired by Moldavia. It’s considered an old-fashioned apple cake but is still popular nowadays due to its exceptionally delicious taste.
➡️ Although it seems complicated at first glance, the recipe is still simple and does not require much time. The dough needs to stay cold overnight but it’s easy to prepare. The same goes for the filling.
