What is bolognese sauce?

➡️ Bolognese sauce is a meat-based sauce popular in Italian cuisine and named for the city of Bologna. It is traditionally used to season tagliatelle al ragù and to make lasagne alla bolognese.
Ragù alla bolognese is a slow-cooked meat-based sauce that requires various processes to prepare, including sweating, sautéing, and braising. A distinctive soffritto of onion, celery, carrot, and various types of minced or finely chopped beef, typically with minor amounts of fatty pork, is included. The dish is then gently cooked for a long time with white wine, milk, and a small bit of tomato paste or tomatoes to form a thick sauce.

➡️ Outside of Italy, the term “Bolognese sauce” refers to a tomato-based sauce to which minced beef has been added. Such sauces often bore little relation to the Italian ragù alla bolognese, being more comparable to the tomato-rich south of the country’s ragù alla napoletana. Although in Italy, ragù alla bolognese is served with flat pasta, notably tagliatelle, “spaghetti bolognese” has become a popular dish in many areas of the world. Even among native Italian cooks, there are many modifications of the recipe today, and the repertory has been expanded by several American chefs noted for their competence in Italian cuisine.

What is Spaghetti bolognese?

➡️ Spaghetti bolognese (also known as spaghetti alla bolognese) is a popular noodle dish outside of Italy that is neither traditional Bolognese nor even Italian cuisine in general. When Italians travel overseas, they generally judge the food to be inauthentic. It consists of spaghetti topped with a sauce consisting of tomatoes, ground beef, garlic, wine, and herbs. Ground beef can sometimes be substituted with other minced meats, usually pork. In this regard, the sauce resembles Neapolitan ragù from the south of Italy rather than the northern Bolognese type of ragù.

PRO Tips For The Spaghetti Bolognese Recipe

➡️ Pasta with sauce is certainly one of the most popular food recipes in many parts of the planet. Asa result, there are lots of food recipes featuring as main ingredients pasta and various sauce types in different combinations.

➡️ This spaghetti bolognese recipe with minced meat and tomato sauce is not the original version of pasta Bolognese with ragu sauce that is prepared traditionally in Italy, but is a modern version, adapted with fewer ingredients and shorter cooking time, loved and cooked by everyone all over the world. Today, it’s considered the best spaghetti Bolognese recipe! Even in Italy, few places still serve the original version of pasta Bolognese with tagliatelle and ragu sauce!

➡️ The amount of Bolognese sauce per serving differs depending on your preferences (usually 1-2 ladles). However, if you cook too much sauce with minced meat and tomatoes do not worry, it can be used the next day to prepare Bolognese pasta bake or Bolognese calzone, or it can be frozen and used later.

➡️ As for the meat used to cook this pasta Bolognese recipe, the most suitable is pork, namely ground pork shoulder. Another cut that can be used, even if it’s drier, is ground fresh pork ham. A combination of minced pork and beef, in different percentages, is also very suitable for this recipe. As a result, sometimes I use a mixture of ground pork and ground beef in a proportion of 60%-40%. Of course, you can adapt these proportions according to your personal taste.

➡️ The best cheese to top pasta Bolognese is a hard Italian cheese such as Pecorino or Parmesan. Needless to say, if you don’t have at hand these Italian cheese types you can use any ground cheese you like.

Drinking Wine at Home

Drinking wine at home!

What goes better with a delicious meal than quality wine? Nothing, both from my point of view and from the ancient Greeks, who said about wine that it’s the nectar of the gods! Can we contradict them?
