Notes

Cooking Tips for the Best Results:

1. Choose the Right Potatoes: Opt for starchy potatoes like Russet or Yukon Gold, as they yield creamy and fluffy mashed potatoes. These varieties absorb the flavors of the fried onions and paprika exceptionally well.
2. Don’t Overcook the Potatoes: Be mindful not to overcook the potatoes, as they can become too waterlogged and less flavorful. Cook them until they are fork-tender but not falling apart.
3. Achieve Perfect Fried Onions: Take your time when frying the onions. Cook them low and slow until they turn a deep golden brown. This gradual caramelization enhances their sweetness and flavor.
4. Balance the Paprika: Paprika is a key ingredient in this dish. Use high-quality Hungarian sweet paprika to achieve an authentic taste. Adjust the quantity to your preference, but be cautious not to make the mashed potatoes overly spicy.
5. Incorporate Sour Cream Gradually: I’m adding sour cream for extra creaminess and tang, incorporate it into the mashed potatoes gradually. Stir it in a bit at a time, adjusting the amount to achieve your desired level of creaminess. This helps you control the texture and ensures that the sour cream blends smoothly with the potatoes and other ingredients.
