What ingredients do you need to cook oven-baked ham steak? (recipe for 8 servings)

Fresh Pork Ham Steak

1) 2.5 kg/90 oz of fresh pork ham
2) some salt or salted red pepper paste ( (see how to make red pepper paste from scratch)
3) some ground black pepper to taste
4) 2-3 cloves of garlic or to taste (you can replace it with 1 tbsp of garlic powder)
5) 1/2 tbsp of dried thyme or 1-2 sprigs of fresh thyme
6) 1/2 tbsp of grated fresh ginger root or 1 tbsp of ginger powder
7) 2 tbsp of Dijon mustard
8) 1 tbsp of brown sugar
9) 2 tbsp of olive oil
10) 0.5 l/17 fl oz of white wine (optional)

How to Make Ham Steak in the Oven Step by Step

Total Time: 1 hour and 30 minutes

1) Prepare the marinade for the pork ham

Pour the olive oil into a bowl, and add the sugar, mustard, and spices, then combine them thoroughly until you get a marinade like a homogeneous and viscous paste.

2) Marinate the fresh pork ham

Brush the fresh pork ham all over with the previously prepared marinade.

3) Place the marinated ham on a tray

Place the ham on a tray and pour water or wine (if used) so that the ham is submerged about three-quarters of its thickness.

4) Place the tray in the oven

Cover the tray with aluminum foil to seal it, then place it inside the preheated oven at 180C/360F for about 1 hour.

5) Remove the foil when the ham is baked

When the ham is baked and the water/wine is low, remove the foil and place back the tray in the oven at 290C/550F for about 20 minutes or until the pork ham steak is golden brown.

6) Wait for the oven-baked ham steak to rest

Stop the heat in the oven and wait about 30 minutes for the pork ham to rest before slicing it up as desired.
